Geraldine “Geri” Phyllis Ruis, age 84, of Jenison, went home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, January 23, 2017. She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Jacoba Mastbergen and her brothers, Parnell Mastbergen, Gerald and Rose Mastbergen. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Linda and Stevan Stratton, Dennis and Patricia Ruis, Judy and Michael Hefferan, Randall and Barb Ruis; 11 grandchildren; 10 great grandchildren; sisters, Gertrude Kooiman, Adriana Van Dyke; brother, Marvin and Melva Mastbergen; sister-in-law, Ruth Mastbergen; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Geri enjoyed spending time with family and friends, knitting, quilting and sewing. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at 11 AM at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW, with Rev. Rick Oppenhuizen officiating. Interment Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday from 6-8 PM and Tuesday from 10-11 AM at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Spectrum Health - Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital Neonatal Unit.

Judy, So sorry to read about Geri's passing. I have very fond memories of working with her (and you) in the NICU. I still on occasion make her carrot cake! Beautiful photo of her. She always had a wonderful smile. Deepest sympathy to you and your family.

Judy, it was with deep sadness that I read about your dear mother. Both of you are remembered fondly amongst those you knew and worked with you both in the NICU. I remember talking with Geri several times when she was working at Field's Fabrics, and she seemed so happy there. Thoughts and prayers for you and your family.
