Gerald “Jerry”  Snyder

Gerald “Jerry” Snyder, age 83, formerly of Wyoming, went to be with Jesus on Thursday, October 2, 2025, the Feast of Guardian Angels.  Jerry was born in Flint, Michigan, on November 28, 1941. After graduating from Brown City High School, he went on to pursue a degree in Civil Engineering at Michigan State University. Jerry spent most of his career with the City of Wyoming, where he dedicated 34 years of service before retiring. In 1964, he married his high school sweetheart, Judy Weigel.  Jerry was a man of unwavering faith, generosity, and devotion. His loyalty to his family was unmatched, and he treasured time with them above all else. He was his kids’ and grandkids’ biggest cheerleader, beaming with pride as they shared their adventures and accomplishments. With a healthy sense of humor, he brought joy and laughter to everyone around him. 

Jerry and Judy, shared a deep love for travel, often enjoying time at their cottage, golf & casino trips, and visiting national parks across the country.  Jerry loved a good breakfast with family and friends, his vanilla milkshakes, diving into his corn on the cob, a good manahattan, and his whiskey Fridays. Card games, fishing trips, and any sporting event always brought his fierce competitiveness to light. As a dedicated church and community member, Jerry ALWAYS found Sunday mass wherever he was. He made it a priority to lend a helping hand to others and volunteer with the Wyoming Lions Club, St. John Vianney, and numerous other organizations. 

He was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Jim Snyder; brother, James “Jimmy” Snyder; sisters-in-law, Marlyn Snyder and Marilyn Devereaux; and nephews Bill and John Snyder.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 61 years Judy Snyder (Weigel); children; daughter, Brenda Tietema (Matt), son, Dan Snyder,  son, Tom Snyder (Tracy), daughter, Christine Snyder; grandchildren, Ben Tietema, Elizabeth Tietema, Zach Snyder (Lizzy), Emily Tietema, Hannah Snyder, Presley Snyder, Abby Tietema, Kenna Snyder, Brooklyn “Bo” Snyder; brothers-in-law, Dennis Devereaux and Don Bauman; sister-in-law, Carol Ann Bauman; and all of his very special nieces and nephews.  

Everyone’s shared support, thoughts and prayers has been appreciated. A mass of Christian Burial will be held 11:00am Wednesday, October 8, 2025 at St. John Vianney Church, 4101 Clyde Park Avenue SW, Wyoming, with Rev. John Vallier presiding.  Burial will be held at Resurrection Cemetery.  Visitation is Tuesday from 5:00-8:00pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park Ave SW, Wyoming, with a rosary following.  Family and friends may also visit Wednesday from 10:00-10:45am at St. John Vianney Church.  In lieu of flowers, please consider making memorial contributions to Hospice of Michigan or St. John Vianney Education Fund.
