Gerald D.  Wierenga

Wierenga, Gerald D. WIERENGA:  Gerald D. Wierenga, age 89, born June 27, 1922, is now reunited with the love of his life, Gladys, who passed away ten months ago, May 17, 2011.  Gerald passed away Sunday morning, March 25, surrounded by his four daughters.  He was preceded in death by his brothers, Clarence and Ray Wierenga; great grandson, Caleb Brunsink.  Gerald is survived by his four daughters, Gloria and Tom Leeman of Hudsonville, Jan and Denny Wasolaskus of Grandville, Sheri and Mark Rinks of Jenison, Roxanne and Doug Steed of Lowell; grandchildren, Mike and Kerri Brow, Lisa and Jim Beerens, Andrea DeKock, Kevin and Brandi Leeman, Jennifer and Jaime Brunsink, Troy and Kate Rinks, Joshua, Holly, and Jodi Wasolaskus, Jeff Gioglio, Steven DeYoung, Sam, Aubreigh, and Gabe Steed; 15 great grandchildren; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Marilyn Wierenga, Harriet Wierenga, Blanche and Art Bradley, Ruth and Harry Stalsonburg.  Gerald was a loving, kind, compassionate man who never complained about what life dealt him.  He received a Purple Heart as a result of being wounded in Germany while proudly serving our country during WWII as a member of the US Army.  Gerald was a charter member of Zion Reformed Church in Grandville.  The family would like to extend a very special thank you to the staff at Oak Crest Manor in Kentwood, for their love and care given to him over the years; he loved you all very much. Funeral services will be held 11 am Wednesday at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home, (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive., with Rev. Rick Vander Wall and Pastor Darren Tigelaar officiating.  Interment Floral View Memorial Gardens.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-9 pm at the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to Spectrum Health Hospice.
