Gerald Banaszewski

Gerald (Jerry) Charles Banaszewski, born November 23, 1937,entered in the presence of his Holy Father on Friday, July 20, 2018. He was preceded in his death by his wife, Kay E. (m. Kay) Banaszewski, his parents Charles (Kazimierz) and Cecilia (m. Kolodziejski) Banaszewski, and his sister, Patricia Campbell. Known to friends and family as "Jerry Bananas" he was an exceptional man with a contagious enthusiasm for life. He had more adventures than could be written, but also expressed profound appreciation for the little things; a good joke, an expressive jazz performance, a cold beer, and lively conversation. He took nothing for granted and shared his laughter, sincerity, and depth each moment he was with us.Jerry’s appreciation for life was truly an art form. In addition to working as a Master Tool/Die Maker for General Motors, Jerry had several other manifestations of passion and artistry. Self-taught in both mathematics/science, he built a Wittman Tailwind airplane,custom homes,several wooden boats, and was a brilliant car enthusiast. He always had a new project, skill or craft he was mastering.Jerry could really light up a room, he had an active social life, and loved people as much as his projects. He loved dancing, as well as sharing stories and laughter with everyone he met. He did far more than live; he embraced life withboldness, brilliance, and authenticity. He will be greatly missed by his children: Frank (Hazel) White, Sherri (Jerry) Throop, Rhonda Irish, and Paula (Alan) Knapp, grandchildren: Ashley Helms, Jeremy (Hailey) Helms,Kathryn Irish, Kurtis and Jacob Allain as well as his great-grandchildren: Peter and Vivian (Irish) Levenson. Cremation has taken place in accordance with his wishes. A Celebration of his life will be held Saturday,August 4, at 11:00 am until 3:00 pm at the VFW / American Spirit Centre 10590 Grand River Rd.
