George Robert Harwood, Sr.

George Robert Harwood, Sr., age 76, of Byron Center passed away on Thursday, September 5, 2024. He was preceded in death by his parents, William Glen and Bernietta Harwood, and his biological father, George Edward Murray; son, David Eric Harwood; brother, Steve Harwood, his “Irish twin”; sisters, Gladys Glover, Evelyn Shirey, Glenda Baker-Young; and other family and loved ones. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 55 years, Rachel; children, George Robert Jr. and Cathy Harwood, Laura Alexander and Dennis Littlejohn, Sr.; brothers, Gary Harwood and William Clyde Murray; sister-in-law, Connie Harwood; several nieces, nephews, extended family and friends. George proudly served his country in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He enjoyed rock hunting, sports, and helping to “coach” and encourage the Byron Center High School wrestling team. Funeral services will be held 11 am Thursday, September 19 at Apostolic Faith Church, 1935 44th St. SE, Grand Rapids, with Pastor Dorian Richardson officiating.  Burial will be held at Ft. Custer National Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 10-11 am at the church prior to the service.
