Remembering George O. Dyer

George O. Dyer, age 80, of Grandville, passed away on Tuesday, July 11, 2017. He was preceded in death by his mother, DuMae; brothers, Walter, and Martin Dyer; sisters, Leona Hoffmeister and Iva Jean Smith. He will be lovingly remembered by his sisters, Dorothy Mackey, Nina Lee Dyer, Paulette and Jack Newberry; numerous nieces and nephews; and extended family. George proudly served in the US Army and retired as a Sergeant with the Grandville Police Department after 32 years of service. He was an avid golfer and sports enthusiast. Memorial services will be held Saturday 11 am at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, with Pastor Dennis Gilbert officiating. Inurnment Rosedale Memorial Park. Relatives and friends may meet the family Saturday from 10-11 am at the funeral home prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to American Lung Association.

Often the Officer would think of home and see the family needed guidance, but knew they must stay because . . . This officer had the watch. For many years they stood the watch so that we and our fellow citizens could sleep soundly in safety knowing that . . . This officer would stand the watch. Today we are here to say . . . “The watch stands relieved . . .” Relieved by those that you have led, guided, mentored and trained. “Officer, you stand relieved . . . We now have the Watch”
