Genevieve Datema

Genevieve Datema, age 98, of Caledonia, passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2022. She was born in 1923 to Ernest and Madge Ruehs. Gen is survived by her loving husband, Phil, of 73 years; children, Richard (Donna) Datema, Betsy (Tim) VanKalker; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren; She was preceded in death by her daughter, Kathy Olinger; sister, Doris (Bill) Schnurr and her brother, Nelson Ruehs. She was raised on Rosemont Dairy Farm and worked at their dairy store on Division Ave and was an exceptional homemaker. Gen was a lifelong member at St. Paul Lutheran Church at Holy Corners and served on several church committees; Sunday School teacher, Altar Guild, and Ladies Aid. She was known for baking and donating a great amount of cookies and bread. A funeral service will be held 11 am on Monday, October 10, 2022, at St. Paul Lutheran Church (8436 Kraft Caledonia), with Rev. Dr. Timothy Brand officiating. Burial will be held at Holy Corners Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Sunday, from 2-5 pm at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (616 E. Main St. Caledonia). Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Ladies Aid at St. Paul Church.
