Gene Allen VanKoevering

April 24, 1952 ~
February 17, 2021

Gene Allen VanKoevering, age 68, of Hudsonville, an adored and loving husband, dad, grandpa, brother, uncle and friend passed away peacefully on Wednesday, February 17, 2021. Gene’s wife of 48 years, Joyce, along with their children and grandchildren, Kelly and Doug Nyhuis (Case and Kaylen), Greg and Lori VanKoevering (Jaxon, Kendal, and Gavin), and Nick and Jackie VanKoevering (Jayden, Ty, and Kruz), are so proud of him; knowing his race is finished and that he was welcomed home to the sweet words of His Heavenly Father, “well done my good and faithful servant.” Gene was a very selfless man who loved his family and friends and even more loved Jesus. He demonstrated the hands and feet of Christ and praised the Lord just like in his favorite passage, Psalm 103. Gene’s family would like to invite friends and family to celebrate this amazing man who will be dearly missed on Monday from 4-7pm at Fellowship Reformed Church, 6610 36th Avenue, Hudsonville, 49426. A memorial service will be held on Tuesday at 11am at Church. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Gene’s memory to Fellowship Reformed Church or Sandy Pines Chapel.

The service will be live streamed and can be viewed on this website by clicking on the live streams and recordings tab.

Gene was a man who truly lived out the greatest and second commandment; Love God, Love people. Gene set the bar high for us who came behind to follow. Thank you. Blessings to you Joyce and the entire family. Num 6:24-26

Dear Joyce and Family: I am so saddened to hear of Gene's passing. Gene and his family were such wonderful neighbors to us for so many years on Adams Street. It was so good to see both of you at Rick's funeral - Gene gave me his phone number and told me to call if I needed anything. I thought that was very kind of him; I hadn't seen him (or the two of you) for many years. I remember Gene as a quiet, kind, and gentle man. I am very sorry for your loss. May God give you comfort and peace during this difficult time. My sincere sympathy to you and your families.

Gene and Joyce were great neighbors at Sandy Pines. We were always impressed with how he ran the park. He always waved and smiled when he saw us. We missed Gene and Joyce when they moved. God bless Joyce and the family.

I had the honor of working with your Dad/husband for a couple years as a contractor to the park. Gene was always so kind and patient. His wisdom was beautiful and he never appeared stressed even when you knew he was. He always asked about my family and shared about al of you. You are al in my prayers. May the Lord welcome Gene to paradise🙏

Thoughts and Prayers to the entire VanKoevering family, friends and all loved ones. I can' not say I new Gene the on a personal level. But what I do know is that a good man is not that of wealth or stature, it is man of humility. And that is what poured out of Gene when ever I had the chance to see him over the years. That's what made Gene not just a good man but a great man. That and the wonderful family that Gene and Joyce have faithfully created. My heart breaks for you all! But knowing that he is Home now is the greatest gift for life after this one. Once again, my thoughts and prayers to all of you. Sincerely, Doug DeVries
