Gary Whittemore

Whittemore – Gary Don Whittemore aged 87 of Grand Rapids went to be with the Lord Monday, January 25, 2021.  He was preceded in death by his son-in-law, Bud Eller and his parents, Don and Elizabeth Whittemore.  Gary is survived by his loving wife of 49 years, Marlene; sons, Terry (Sheree) Whittemore, Jerry (Karen) Whittemore; stepdaughters, Brenda Eller, Denise (Dennis) Vandermark, Jackie (Mark) Vandiver; 10 grandchildren; 13 great grandchildren.  Gary grew up in Wyoming, Michigan.  He married Marlene on May 28, 1971 and was looking forward to celebrating their 50th Anniversary. Mr. Whittemore graduated from Godwin Heights High School in 1951 and served in the US Air Force.  He worked for Steelcase for 24 years and retired to Hudson, Fl.  He spent his time traveling to see family and exploring the United States.  He was most proud when he was encouraging his grandchildren in athletics and academics.  Gary loved the U of M, the Detroit Tigers and Lions. Gary’s family will greet relatives and friends from 10AM to 11AM Friday, January 29, 2021 at Stegenga Funeral Chapel – Wyoming 3131 S.
