Gary James Eckert

Gary James Eckert, age 69, of Kentwood, went to his heavenly home on Wednesday, January 1, 2020.  He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 42 years, Amy; children: Michael Eckert, Daniel Eckert, Kathryn Eckert (Kenneth White-Angba); furry grandpets; twin brother, Gale (Carol) Eckert; mother-in-law, Marilyn VanEvery; sisters-in-law: Jane (Jerry) Mohr, Melissa (Raleigh) Griffin, Sarah (Robert) Engster; many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.    He was preceded in death by his parents, Gene and Ruth Eckert; father-in-law, David VanEvery.  Gary loved to spoil his “adopted grandchildren”: Yana, Ben, Charlie.  He was an avid fan of U of M football. He also enjoyed music, old movies, tinkering, and old car shows.  Funeral services will be held 11:00 a.m. Monday at Carlisle United Methodist Church, 1084 76th St., Byron Center, with Pastor Mike Ramsey officiating.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 2-5 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park Ave. SW, Wyoming, and also one hour prior to the service at church.  In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Make a Wish Foundation.  The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff and caregivers at St. Mary’s ICU and 8 Main for their loving care of Gary.
