Garald R. Herman, age 57, of Jenison, passed away after a long hard battle with cancer. He defeated this illness once and fought very hard the second time, but lost his fight the third time on Wednesday, August 9, 2017. He was preceded in death by his dad and best friend “Pop”, Robert J. Herman; mother, Dolores J. (nee Morgan) Herman; sister, Darla Forsyth; grandparents, Joe and Cordelia Herman, Clarence and Mabel Morgan; brother-in-law, Randy Gayle. He is survived by his wife of two years, Dawn Herman (nee Brink); daughters, Jamie Herman, Rebecca and Marvin Worden; son, Kevin and Dana Herman; daughter, Arianna Detwiler; grandchildren, Collin Worden, Owen Worden, Audrey Herman; brother, Russell and Laurie Herman; sister, Janet Gayle and Larry Mullenix; Dawn’s siblings, James Brink, Grant and Cindy Brink, Bruce and Carolyn Brink, Cathy and Tom Feltenbarger, Todd and Gail Brink, Gary Brink; The Herman Gang from Up North; many aunts and uncles, among them are his close aunt, Roberta and uncle, Harold; a ton of cousins; several nieces and nephews; and special friends. Garald worked for General Motors, for almost 31 years, as a Tool and Die Maker and for most of his career as a Tool and Die Machinist, retiring as Machine Leader. Garald loved to hunt and fish with Kevin, Russ and his best buddy, Don Krueger. As of now, Garald is enjoying his stay in heaven and drinking a cup of coffee with Mom, Pop, Don and Uncle Paul and Aunt Betty. The family wishes to thank all of Garald’s family, friends, and caregivers who showed love and support to both Garald and his family. Funeral services will be held on Monday, August 14, at 11 a.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, Grandville, with Rev. Vi Daniel officiating. Interment will be held at Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. and Monday from 10-11 a.m. at the funeral home. I worked with Gerald at GM and will remember him for the opinions that he freely offered and the laughter that came from our friendly conversations. He was a hard worker that cared about quality work. I am sure that he fought a good battle and is now able to have a much needed rest. God speed Gerald.
