Frederick James McDonald

Frederick J. McDonald, age 91, of Grandville, passed away after a battle with Parkinson’s and went to be with his Lord on Wednesday, January 18, 2023. Fred was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, and great-great-grandfather. Fred and Mae met in California while both serving in the US Air Force. They were later married and moved his Texas bride to Michigan. He loved spending time with his family, and also enjoyed gardening with his dog, Shadow. He was preceded in death by his parents and siblings. Fred will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 68 years, Mae “Oddie” McDonald; children, Cathleen Johnson, James and Mary McDonald, Vicki Stephens, Jeffrey McDonald; six grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; five great-great-grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral Mass will be held on Tuesday, January 24, 2023, at 11 a.m. at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3937 Wilson Ave SW, with Fr. Stephen Durkee presiding. The burial will take place at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday from 4-7 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW.
