Fred “Angelo” Wals

Fred “Angelo” Wals, age 64, of Hudsonville, went home to be with his heavenly father on Thursday, November 12, 2020, due to complications of COVID-19. Fred fought so hard to overcome this, but God’s will was different than ours and he chose to free him from his suffering. Fred is now the official greeter in heaven. He was welcomed into heaven by Jesus and his parents, Rafael and Rose Wals, and Martha Salazar Wals; and his brother, Ralph Wals. He will be missed everyday by his faithful and loving wife, Susi, who has walked side by side with Fred for over 35 years. He will be deeply missed by his sons (mijos), Curtis Wals, Nicholas and his wife Bekah Wals, and Benjamin Wals; and his precious granddaughter, Charlie Sue, who was the love of his life. He is also survived by his sisters, Patricia Wals-Hernandez, and Rosamaria Salazar Wals; brother, Rafael Salazar Wals; parents-in-law, Charles and Jane Westers; brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Rick and Pennie Westers, Tony and Deb Trevino, Tim and Sally Lucas, and Scott and Becky Westers; and many nephews, nieces, great-nephews, and great-nieces whom he loved very much. Fred was a loving husband, father, son-in-law, papi, brother, uncle, cousin, and friend. He was a very unique person who loved greatly. He had a smile for everyone he encountered life with that could brighten anyone’s day. Fred had a way of loving and making others feel special. He was often loud and boisterous and liked to have fun. Fred seemed to never have met a stranger and was approachable and friendly to all. Susi could never go anywhere without waiting on him as he would run into someone and talk about memories forever. Fred had a particular love for history, movies and of course music, which was a big part of his life. He DJ’d for weddings and parties for twenty years. Fred shared this love for music with his boys who knew all the oldies and loved The Temptations. His passion in life was his family which meant everything to him. He always wanted the best for his boys and worried about them endlessly. Besides his wife, Susi, his “baby doll”, having Bekah join his family and getting the “princess” he never had completed him. By far his greatest joy was his grandbaby whom he adored and so looked forward to spending time with and had plans to spoil her forever. Fred’s family would like to thank all who supported and loved them during this journey. They are especially grateful for the excellent care that Fred received from the ICU staff at Metro Health Hospital. Funeral services will be held on Friday, November 20, 2020, at 11 a.m. at Trinity Christian Reformed Church, 60 Port Sheldon St., Jenison, with Rev. Don VanSlyke officiating. The burial will take place at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday, November 19, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the church and Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church. Masks are required and clean masks will be provided at the church. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Metro Health Hospital.

Freddy and Sue were our neighbors on Park Ave in Hudsonville for 13 years. We always knew when Freddy was outside, smiling, upbeat and ready to chat about anything. We went to South High School, but a few years apart, So we had memories to share from there. Every so often he’d call us in Florida with updates. We’ll miss his calls. Sending our Deepest Sympathy to Sue and their sons.

My sincere condolences and sympathy along with prayers for comfort. I had the pleasure of meeting Fred many years ago when I worked at Metro Hospital. He DJ'd at a Metro Christmas party and we had a blast! He played the beats while we shook our booties!! Great guy. Very likable. I had the pleasure of working with his wife, Suzi, whom is a wonderful person. The hearts that loved Fred will be full of memories forever. Truly a beautiful family ❤️. God Bless and may God be with his family and loved ones during this sad time. Heaven has another Angel. 🙏👼🎶
