Our family is saddened to announce the passing of Frans Semplonius, age 89, of Grandville,
on Wednesday, September 15, 2021. He battled lung cancer and congestive heart failure for several years. His final days were spent surrounded by family and friends. Frans was born in Bandung, Indonesia on October 17, 1931. He lived there about 15 years before moving to the Netherlands in 1946. He then immigrated to the United States in 1956. On July 11, 1958, Frans married his wife Liena. Frans and Liena were married for 63 years and went on to have two children, Andele “Andy” and Lia. He worked at Steelcase for 25 years as a research and development engineer. Frans attended Ivanrest Church. He was a man of generosity and grace who treasured spending time with his family. He loved to travel the world and see new places throughout the states and Europe. Frans loved life and enjoyed teaching line dancing to his friends and students in Florida. He even had a unique hobby of making movies. Frans was preceded in death by his parents, Andele and Anna Semplonius and brother, Rindert Semplonius. He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Liena Semplonius (Roelfsema); son, Andele “Andy” Semplonius; daughter, Lia (Richard) Reau; grandchildren, Sara (Josh) Marlink, Katie (Travis) Bravata, Jace (Fiance Kara) Andrus and Jaylynn Andrus; and great-grandchildren: Rhylin, Easton, Breckon, Madison, and Peyton; sister-in-law, Silvia Semplonius.
A Celebration of Life Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 2, 2021, at 11:00 a.m. at Ivanrest Church with Pastor Brandon Haan officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family at the church prior to the service from 10 - 11 AM.
