Fern G. (Spronk) Wiersum, age 73, of Jenison was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Saturday, July 21, 2018, surrounded by her family. She was a loving wife, mom, and grandma who treasured her family. Fern graduated from the Blodgett School of Nursing and worked for Spectrum Health as an RN for many years. She served her Lord with her time and talents in many ways which included volunteering at her church, Jenison Christian School and Rehoboth Christian School. Fern was preceded in death by her parents, Henry and Alma Spronk; parents-in-law, Carl and Theresa Wiersum; sister-in-law, Debra Spronk; and nephew, Clinton Spronk. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 49 years, Carl; children and grandchildren, Brian and Amy Wiersum (Carley, Ellie), Carla and Robert Schaaf (Robert Jr., Mark, Thomas), Kevin and Amber Wiersum (Gavin, Addie, Ashleigh), Krista and Ernie Selvig (Maggie, Ty); brothers, Delmar and Jolene Spronk, Leon and Cynthia Spronk, Gordon Spronk, Randall and Beth Spronk; and many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Wednesday, July 25, 2018, at Baldwin Street Christian Reformed Church, 2101 Baldwin Street, Jenison, with Rev. Don Van Slyke officiating. Interment Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW. In lieu of flowers, those who wish may make memorial contributions to Rehoboth Christian School.

What a blessing it was to know Fern. She always had a smile on her face every time I saw her. She blessed the Rehoboth Christian School every time she came here to volunteer. We will truly miss her. Our thoughts and prayers are with the family.

Sooo very thankful I was able to see/visit with Fern in May when I was in MI - sorry we couldn't make it for the funeral. Sent thoughts and prayers all day long. We, as cousins, will all miss her! My heart goes out to the family, especially the grandchildren, as they were so special to Fern. Could just tell from her Facebook posts that she loved having them over, doing things with them, going to their events. Pray they will always remembers those times with their grandmother. Will continue to life you up Carl; you walked with her every step of the way through her illness. God bless you!

Our prayers go out to you all in this time of grieving and sorrow. I worked many years with Fern at urgent care in Grandville, also worked with Amy and my husband was a Georgetown Fire fighter for many years with Brian. Your mom loved her family and her god , that fact was evident in all she did in life. I admired her as a nurse, a friend and faithful follower of her lord. She walked the walk in all she did. May her light continue to shine through her family ,which is the beautiful legacy she created!
