Remembering Eunice   Hopkins

Hopkins, Eunice HOPKINS:  Eunice (Assum) Hopkins, 84, of Jenison, Mi, formerly of Morrow, Ohio, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, January 17th at Cambridge Manor in Grandville, Mi.  She was born September 6, 1927 in Morrow, Ohio and was the daughter of the late Howard and Nell Assum and the sister of the late Marjorie Burkhart of Bradenton, Florida.  She is survived by: her devoted husband of 64 years, Gerald, and their 3 children,  Cynthia (Nathan) Boynton, Keith (Anne Marie) Hopkins, and Susan (Robert Dean) Hopkins, her 10 grandchildren, Susanne (Matthew) Minervino, Lucinda (Jeremy) Melvin, Elisabeth (Cecil) Ludema, Natalie (Daniel) Siminski, Tanya (Vincent) Hopkins-Roth, Christopher (Bernadette) Hopkins, Grant Hopkins, Brandon Hopkins, Sarah Hopkins, Cameron Dean,  Wilson Dean, and 14 great grandchildren.  Eunice graduated from Morrow High School in 1945 and attended Miami University of Ohio.  Throughout her life she was involved in many community organizations including as a member of the Morrow Methodist Church, writing the Morrow News for the Western Star,  a member of Eastern Star of Ohio and Michigan, 4-H Leader in Warren County, and a volunteer at North Ottawa Hospital in Grand Haven, Michigan.  Of particular importance, she was a member of the Mother's Club for 60 years, a group of lifelong friends from the Morrow area (Carolyn Crombie, Evelyn Dare, Jean Harper, Carolyn Lewis, Ruth Lewis, and Betty Vale). Special friends from her life included Norma Beeson of Lake Whales, Florida, Jeannie Craig & Marlene DeBoard of Morrow, and Katy Davis of Charleston, WV.  Throughout her life, she was a loving wife and mother, an expert seamstress, and a superb cook.  She enjoyed traveling extensively with Gerald after his retirement from General Motors in 1980.  She and Gerald also enjoyed wintering in Ruskin, Florida with their many friends. She spent the last 5 years of her life at Cambridge Manor, enjoying daily visits from Gerald.  The family would like to thank the staff at Cambridge for all of their care and support during this time.  A family memorial service was held at Cambridge Manor on January 19th.  She will be laid to rest at Morrow Cemetery this summer. A celebration of her life will also be held this summer, for family and friends, in the Morrow area, on a date yet to be determined.  In lieu of flowers, the family requests your memories of Eunice to be sent to Susan Hopkins, 1353 Pinecrest Ave SE, East Grand Rapids, MI 49506.
