Eugene Loren Cheek

Eugene Loren Cheek, age 87, of Kentwood MI, passed away on Thursday, January 6, 2022. Gene was born in Aurora, Indiana on August 10, 1934, and moved to Cincinnati, Ohio as a young child, then to Grand Rapids, Michigan in 1982. He was preceded in death by his father, Loren; his mother, Alice; beloved wife, Bobbie; and sister, Winnie. Gene will be lovingly remembered by his children, Robert and Shirley Cheek, Linda Cheek, Steven Cheek, Randy Cheek; grandchildren, Timothy Cheek, Jennifer Cheek, Teresa and Brad Robinson, Adrien Robinson; nine great-grandchildren; sister, Rita and Roy Hopper; his devoted dog, Autumn; extended family and friends. Gene’s interests included sports, history, current events, friendly debates, bowling, and traveling to enjoy the scenic beauty of our country. His greatest joy was spending time with his family and friends. As a young man, he fell in love with a new-fangled invention called television and enjoyed a successful career in retail sales and management, uniting his customers with the right product for them. His family would like to thank their neighbors, Roy and Cheri, Teresa and Drew Olszewski for their loving support throughout the years. Funeral services will be held 11 am Tuesday, January 11 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4646 Kalamazoo Ave. SE, Kentwood, with Rev. Dennis Gilbert officiating. Burial Dutton Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Tuesday for one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital.
