Eugene John Berens, age 84, of Hudsonville, finished the good race and was welcomed Home on Monday, August 14, 2017, after a long, courageous battle with cancer.  He was preceded in death by his wives, Jane (Maczka) Berens and Nellie (Dracht) Berens. He is survived by his children, Antonia (Raymond) Matulaitis, Barbara Berens, Steve Berens, Deborah Eerdmans, Jim Berens, and Joe Berens; 12 grandchildren; 16 great-grandchildren; stepchildren, Sheryl (Mike) Williams, Randy (Shirley) Meekhof, Jerry (LaVonne) Meekhof, Bob (Cindy) Meekhof, Larry (Rose) Meekhof, Tim Meekhof, Chuck (Kristy) Meekhof; 13 stepgrandchildren; 3 step great-grandchildren; brothers, Jay (Arletta) Berens, Gordon (Wilma) Berens; sister, Mildred (Dan) Ploeg; and many nieces and nephews.  Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, August 16, 2017 at 11:00 a.m. at Baldwin Street Christian Reformed Church, 2101 Baldwin Street, Jenison, with Rev. Don Van Slyke officiating.  Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens.  Relatives and friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the church.  Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Emmanuel Hospice or the Buckley Steam Engine Club.
