Elsie Lemmen

LEMMEN - Elsie Lemmen (nee Schat), age 90, of Allendale went to be with her Lord surrounded by her family Wednesday morning, December 26, 2018. Elsie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Wietski Schat; sister, Grace DeJonge. She is survived by her beloved husband, Bern Lemmen; children, Susan (Gaylen) Byker, Daniel (Diann) Lemmen, Katherine (Mike) Price, Rebecca (Dave) Clark; 8 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; brother, Ray (Bev) Schat; brother-in-law, Bob DeJonge; sister-in-law, Linda Lemmen; brother-in-law, Maurie (Lorraine) Lemmen; sisters-in-law, Ethel VanderLugt, Bea Feddema, Norma (Klaas) Kapteyn; many nieces and nephews. Elsie had a servant's heart. She devoted her life to her family and church. She was a loving wife and caring mother who taught each of her children to love the Lord. She used her creative gifts of cooking and crafting to support the church and Christian schools in their fundraisers. Generations of Elsie's family have been nourished by her baking and canning. Elsie and Bern spent their retirement visiting their family around the country and world. Four generations of the family gathered this summer to celebrate their 70th wedding anniversary. A funeral service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, December 30, 2018 at Second Allendale CRC, 6950 Lake Michigan Drive. The family will greet relatives and friends from 1:00 to 3:00 PM at the church.
