Family owned and operated for over 85 years.
Elmer J. Hoffman, age 94, of Hudsonville, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, April 22, 2025. Elmer was a kind and devoted man whose life was defined by his deep love for his family, unwavering faith, and dedicated service to others. Elmer proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. After returning home, he began a long and faithful career at Keebler, where he worked for 43 years before retiring. A man of strong faith, Elmer devoted much of his time to serving his Lord, his church, and his community. He was active in many areas of church life, including serving on the church council, the Unity Christian High School Board, and volunteering at the Christian Reformed Conference Grounds. Elmer and his beloved wife enjoyed many winters in Florida, where they formed lasting friendships and cherished warm-weather getaways. His early upbringing on a farm instilled in him a lifelong love of the land—he found great joy in tending to his garden and spending time outdoors. Elmer will be deeply missed by all who knew and loved him, but his legacy of kindness, faith, and service will live on in the hearts of those he touched. He was preceded in death by his wife of 68 years, Alberta “Abby” Hoffman; three brothers and two sisters. He will be lovingly remembered by his children: Patricia and Gary Matthysse and their children, Cameron (Anna) DeVries, Jennifer (Peter) Heyboer, Amber (Melvin) Eledge, Jason (Amber) Matthysse, Jennifer (Patrick) Shanklin, Jeremy (Andrea) Matthysse, Jamie and Samantha Matthysse, Annie (Steven) Bradley; Debra and Loren Redder and their children, Kalee (Kyle) Walters, Nicole (Duncan) Vos; Tim and Kathy Hoffman and their children, Troy (Jessica) Hoffman, Stacy (Chris) Knoll; Lisa and Randy Ledeboer and their children, Sarah (Luke) Scott, Tyler (Kaycee) Ledeboer, Rebecca (Nathan) Little; Eric and Angie Hoffman; 33 great-grandchildren; sister-in-law, Julianna DeYoung; and many loving nieces and nephews. Funeral service will be held on Friday, April 25, at 11 a.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, Grandville, with Pastor Dave Jolman and Pastor Randy Ledeboer officiating. The burial will take place at Floral View Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may visit with the family on Thursday, April 24, from 4-7 p.m. and on Friday from 10-10:45 a.m. prior to the service at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be given to the Christian Reformed Conference Grounds.
