Ellen R. (Branderhorst) Dykstra-Boss, age 84, of Jenison, was called home to be with her Lord and Savior on Monday, February 19, 2018. She was preceded in death by her husband of 36 years, Rev. John W. Dykstra, and her husband, George Boss; her siblings, Donald Branderhorst, Joyce DeHaan, and Harold Branderhorst. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Rev. David and Brenda Dykstra, Donna and Robert Bruner, Dawn Dykstra, Debra and Bruce Applebach, James and Christine Dykstra, Denise and Philip Dykstra-Davis; her grandchildren, Sharon and Rick Harvey, Kerri and Jerry Loranger, Brett Applebach, Nick Bruner, Eric and Chelsea Applebach, Hannah Dykstra, Johnna Dykstra, Lydia Dykstra, Nicole Applebach, John Dykstra, Matthew Dykstra, and Kathryn Dykstra; 5 great-grandchildren; her stepchildren, Gary and Cynthia Voogt, Byron and Beverly Boss; 11 step-grandchildren; her sister, Arlene Christian; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law, Sue Branderhorst, Ray DeHaan, Grace and Larry Goudzwaard, Mary Dykstra, Anita and Howard Dyke; and several loving nieces, nephews, and cousins. Ellen met her husband, John at Calvin College and served alongside him both in church ministry and mission outreach. They served in Kalamazoo, Michigan; Toadlena, New Mexico; Dayton, Ohio; Newton, Iowa; Grand Rapids, Michigan; and Oak Lawn, Illinois. She continued to serve as an organist in Holland, Michigan. A celebration of Ellen’s life will be held on Thursday, February 22, 2018 at 12 noon at Pillar Church, 57 East 10th St., Holland, with Pastor Jon Brown officiating. Interment Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday from 10:00-11:45 a.m. prior to the service at the church.
