Elaine Joann Flermoen

Flermoen, Elaine Joann Elaine Joann Flermoen, age 83, of Coopersville, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family, on Tuesday, December 9, 2014.  Elaine was the firstborn child of Otto and Johanna (VandenBerg) Jorgenson.  She was born in Muskegon, Michigan where she grew up with siblings, Audrey Krentz, Gary Jorgenson, and Karen (Tom) Shively.  After graduating in 1949 from Muskegon High School, she married Edwin M. Flermoen, one year her senior and a real catch from the farmlands of Minnesota.  They went on to have six children and raised their family in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  In 1984, Ed and Elaine built their dream home back in the woods near Grand Haven.  They enjoyed twenty years together there until Ed’s death in September of 2005.  Elaine loved to sew, knit, and garden.  She has also left behind many beautiful hand painted china pieces.  She made the best applesauce and apple pie on the planet. Elaine is survived by her children, Steven, Kevin, Laurie, and Daniel Flermoen, all of Grand Rapids, Jaine (Eric) Grundmanis of B.C., Canada, and Susan (Russ) Rosema of Grant, MI. She is also survived by six wonderful grandchildren, Keli Ann, Robert (Stephanie), Joshua, Elliot, Juliet, Kaviya; great grandson, Tyler.  Her sisters and brother also survive her, as well as many other relatives in the Muskegon area. Mom, your children wish you only peace.  A memorial service will be held on Wednesday 11 AM at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW.  Interment was held at Rosedale Memorial Park.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday from 10-11 AM prior to the service at the funeral home. The family wishes to thank Hospice of Michigan, the Senior Resource Center of Muskegon, and Jennifer, a Spectrum Health social worker for their loving care of our mom. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Michigan or the Alzheimer’s Association.
