Edwin LeRoy Ericson

Edwin LeRoy Ericson, age 83, of Grand Rapids, MI, went home to be with his Lord and Savior with his family by his side on October 14th, 2025, in Grand Rapids, Michigan. 
Edwin was born on September 27, 1942, in Chicago, Illinois, to Paul Hilmer and Ruth Evelyn (Vath) Ericson. Edwin graduated from Kelly High School, in Chicago, in 1960. He later graduated from the Grand Rapids School of the Bible and Music in 1968. Edwin married Lois Jane Shannon on January 25th, 1969. They were blessed with 56 years of marriage.
Edwin loved his Lord, family, church, and country. He faithfully sought to honor God and focused on providing for his family. His children and grandchildren were blessed by his example of the Heavenly Father. His commitment and stability extended to his Church family; teaching his children to be involved in cleaning, mowing, and missionary work.
Edwin worked for the USPS for 45 years as a US Mail Clerk. He began his work on the Chicago Postal Railroad Mail-Car system. His career shifted to Grand Rapids where he worked his way through college and provided for his family.
He enjoyed watching and playing sports. Edwin helped his children explore baseball, basketball, gymnastics, and swimming. He particularly loved bowling. This love extended into his time at Rest Haven where he played Wii-Bowling with his sister Evelyn and other residents. 
Anyone who knew Edwin knew that he cherished food. He especially loved donuts, ice cream, and coffee. He enjoyed convincing the staff at Rest Haven to give him extra treats and coffee. 
Edwin LeRoy Ericson is survived by his wife Lois; daughters, Ruth (Iain) Coller, Michele’ (David) Jones; 2 sons, Eddie (Amy) Ericson, Timothy (Pamela) Ericson, and 17 grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings, Evelyn Ericson, Margie Goeringer, Paul Ericson, Don (Alecia) Ericson, Karen Plumlee, and Sharon Ericson. Edwin was preceded in death by his parents and his sister Ruth (Howard) Bryant.
A celebration of life will be held at West Cannon Baptist Church, 5760 Cannonsburg Rd NE, Belmont, MI, on Saturday, October 25th, 2025, at 11:30 AM, with Pastor Timothy Anderson officiating. The service will be livestreamed at https://www.youtube.com/westcannon. The family will receive friends for visitation on Friday, October 24th, from 5:00 - 7:00 PM at MKD Funeral Home, 1601 Post Dr NE, Belmont, MI, and prior to the service at West Cannon Baptist on Saturday, October 25th, 2025, at 10:30 AM. Edwin will be laid to rest at Blythefield Memory Gardens in Belmont, MI. (6200 Brewer Ave NE, Belmont, MI 49306).
