Edna Mae Shomler

Edna Mae (Melton) Shomler, age 89, of Caledonia, went to be with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ on Thursday, February 27, 2025. Edna was the ninth of thirteen children and was born at home just outside of Lonsdale, Arkansas on Christmas Day 1935 to Garvin and Bertha Melton, along with her twin brother, Doyle. Edna’s family moved to Boscobel, Wisconsin, in the early 1950s where she attended high school and met the love of her life, Bob Shomler. Shortly after they were married in November of 1956, Bob and Edna moved to Rockford, Illinois, where Theresa and Rob were born. They then moved to Grand Rapids, Michigan, where Robin was born. Edna worked at Keeler Brass for several years, and she and Bob owned a ceramic business with their friends, Wayne and Sharon Mattson in the 1970s. Edna completed her work life at Radio Bible Class (now Our Daily Bread Ministries) when she retired in 1998 after 17 years. Edna was preceded in death by her loving husband of 68 years, Bob. She is survived by her three children, Theresa (Bob) Schultz, Rob (Cheryl) Shomler, Robin (John) Emrich; 10 grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 1 great great grandchild; brothers, Glynn Melton, Donald (Marcia) Melton; sisters-in-law, Irene Melton, Sonja Melton; many nieces and nephews. Edna was a faithful Sunday school teacher, Awana leader and deaconess at Kentwood Baptist Church where she and Bob were members for more than 60 years. Funeral services will be held 11 am Wednesday, March 5 at Kentwood Baptist Church, 2875 52nd St. SE, Kentwood, with Rev. Larry Fox officiating. Burial will be held at Lakeside Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday from 10-11 am at the church prior to the service.  In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Kentwood Baptist Church. The family would like to thank all the staff of Carveth Village for the love and care they provided to Edna and Bob. Thank you also to Interim Healthcare for their care and support of Edna.
