We were deeply sadden to hear about Dustin’s loss. We have known Dustin for over 7 years. He was part of our many, many family’s life-changing events such as being a part of my wedding, my sister’s wedding, to our big move abroad, and he even did our taxes! He was our brother-in-law. Dustin was a kind-hearted and caring man. I will miss his greetings when he walks into my mom’s house, his funny sense of humor, and his food order from Thai Avenue (Thai Spicy Beef Drunken Noodle with mushrooms), because he would let me have a bite and it was delicious! To Dustin: We will continue to love you and will miss you from now until forever. May all your burdens from your mind, soul, and body be lifted and set free. May you rest easy and peacefully my Dear Dusty. 🕊️❤️ From: Yamy (Rockie’s sister) & Charles Pretrick with love ❤️

Dustin, my heart is heavy and with your family. Having grown up along side your family, I can confidently say there are many many broken hearts right now. I’m grateful for having the chance to know you, and grateful for your service to this country as well. I pray your memories embrace and keep the ones you left behind. You won’t be forgotten, but sorely missed.

We did not know Dustin however we are so very thankful for his service to our country. (We know with him being from Allendale & having three cats he was someone we would have enjoyed knowing.) Our deepest sympathy to his family and friends, we are so very sorry for your loss. An unexpected passing brings additional layers of grief-we pray that your special memories of Dustin will be a source of strength and comfort. May God bless you with his peace in this sad and difficult time. Deepest sympathy, Tom & Kim Sullivan and Tim Smoes

Dustin was my roommate in Iraq and was such an awesome person. Almost all of my good memories of that time included hanging out with him. There is no doubt he will be missed by many.

I had the honor of being Dustin’s Team Leader in Iraq. We went through many trials and tribulations together, and it was an honor serving with him. I pray for the family and all who are affected by this tragedy in anyway.

I met Dustin when I moved moved to Allendale in 2000. He was definitely one of the nicest & sweetest people I met that school. While I never had the pleasure/honor to serve with him, he is still my brother in arms. We have lost to many of us to our mental struggles. Even though we leave the war, the war never leaves us. Until we meet in Valhalla! Lo, there do I see my father. Lo, there do I see my mother, and my sisters, and my brothers. Lo, there do I see the line of my people, Back to the beginning! Lo, they do call to me. They bid me take my place among them, In the halls of Valhalla! Where the brave may live forever!
