Duane “Duke” Erwin Boogaard, age 88, of Wyoming was promoted to his Heavenly home to be with Jesus on Saturday, January 27, 2024. Duke was preceded in death by his first wife, Thelma; and his sister, Donna Hoekzema. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 15 years, Barbara Boogaard; children, Cherie and Dan Brown, Michael and Melissa Boogaard, Robert and Crystal Boogaard; grandchildren, Greg, Heather, Lindsey, Sara, Kelly, Michelle, Tyler, Jacqui, Matthew; twenty great-grandchildren; step children, Doug and Margie Potter, Jan and Thom Ritzema, Judy and Paul VandenBerg, Gwen and Al VanDellen; 19 step grandchildren; brother-in-law, Jim Oudbier; extended family and friends. Duke proudly served in the US Navy. Duke retired after many years as a Marketing Manager for Building and Lumber Supplies. He started Mission India Super Thrift Store and served as its director for many years. He was very involved in his church, LaGrave Ave Christian Reformed Church, and the lives of his family; he was extremely supportive of them and truly excited for their accomplishments. Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, February 1, 2024 at LaGrave Avenue Christian Reformed Church, 107 LaGrave Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503 with Rev. Chad Boorsma officiating. Burial at Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family from 5-7 pm on Wednesday, January 31 at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, and from 10:00-10:45 am on Thursday at church.
