Douglas Vander Wall

Douglas Bos Vander Wall, age 77, of Grand Rapids, died peacefully on October 1, 2021, following a brief hospitalization. The son of the late Peter and Jessie (Bos) Vander Wall, Doug is survived by his brother, Robert Vander Wal; niece, Jillon (Dennis Boman) Vander Wal; and nephew, Randy Vander Wal. He was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Barbara Vander Wal. Doug graduated from Grand Rapids Christian High and attended Cerritos Community College and Calvin College. He worked on a survey crew for William and Works before joining the army and later worked for Grand Rapids Magazine and Grand Valley State University. Doug is remembered for providing considerable supporting care to his parents in their later years and assistance to Robert (his brother) and wife Barbara more recently. A good conversationalist, he was a history buff whose pastimes included collecting memorabilia, debate, and playing Santa at Jellema family Christmas parties. Relatives and friends may meet the family Thursday, October 7, from 5-7 p.m. and Friday, October 8, from 10-10:45 a.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Funeral services will be held on Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
