Family owned and operated for over 85 years.
Douglas Craig Sjoerdsma Sr. age 59, rode into the arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, on Thursday, June 20, 2024. Doug loved his family with amazing selflessness, only surpassed by his love for the Lord. He was an active member at Bethany URC where he served as a deacon, elder, and did volunteer/mission work. Doug was an avid bicyclist belonging to a group of Christian brothers, RWAM. He had a passion for sharing the good news of salvation and continually looked for opportunities on bike rides and in everyday life. He enjoyed music, singing, videography, fishing, playing sports, and vacationing/game nights with family. Doug worked 33 years at Gordon Food Service. He then had the special task of driving a bus for Grandville Public Schools. “Mr. Doug” was loved by the kids on his bus and he loved each one of them. His desire was for them to know Christ as their Savior.
Doug will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 35 years, Sherri; his children, Douglas (Julie), Anna (Travis) Moelker, and Mark (Katelyn); his grandchildren, Silas, Emma, Judah, and James, respectively.
Doug is survived by his brother, Tom (Heidi) Sjoerdsma; half-brother and half-sister, Don (Helen) Dieleman, and Sandra (Roger) Warren; step-mother, Hennie; step-brother and step-sisters, Tom (Teresa) Waterloo, Karen DeVille, Amy (Dave) Barber; father-in-law, Mitch (Betsy) Dykstra; brothers and sisters-in-law, Sue (Al) Steenwyk, Mick (Luanne) Dykstra, Steve (Joni) Dykstra, Joel (Kelly) Dykstra; as well as many loving nieces, nephews, and lifelong friend, Jon Ymker.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Art Sjoerdsma and A. Jeanne Sjoerdsma; mother-in-law, Joyce Dykstra; and brother-in-law, Jeff DeVille. Doug would want you to consider, “Where will you spend eternity? If you were to die today, do you know Jesus as your Lord and Savior?” Philippians 1:21, “For to me to live is Christ, and to die is gain.”
Funeral services will be held at 11 am on Thursday, June 27, 2024 at Bethany United Reformed Church, 5401 Byron Center Ave. SW, Wyoming, with Rev. Eric Van Der Molen and Rev. Casey Freswick officiating. Burial will take place at Georgetown Township Cemetery.
