Douglas “Doug” William Reeder, age 88, of Wyoming, passed away peacefully on Friday, June 21, 2019. He was born in Grand Rapids on September 21, 1930 to Floyd and Dorothy Reeder. He graduated from Lee High School in 1949, followed by forty-two year career at Steelcase along with three years of service as a paratrooper in the US Army. Upon returning from the service, he met and then married Patricia A. Gressler on October 29, 1955 and together raised five children. He was a long-time member and volunteer at Holy Name and St. John Vianney parishes. Faith and service were always a cornerstone in his daily life. Doug enjoyed family vacations at Silver Lake, family/friend gatherings, playing cards and yard games, walking, gardening, life on Boone Street, Notre Dame, grandchildren, children, and most of all, his wife of 55 years, “Treesh”. He was preceded in death by his wife, Patricia; granddaughter, Catherine Szymanski; great-grandchildren: Jack and Kate Reeder; sister, Maxine Leatherman; brother, Jack Reeder; and in-laws: Edward and Leona Gressler, Eugene Gressler, Thomas O’Hearn, David Gressler, Mike Gressler, Donnie Gressler and Bob Leatherman. Surviving are their sons: Dan (Kim) Reeder of Grand Rapids, Scott (Shelly) Reeder of Wyoming, Greg Reeder of Middleville, Tom (Maggie) Reeder of Grand Rapids; daughter, Lisa (Greg) Near of Ludington; grandchildren: Joe, Maria, Angela, Bryan, Nathan, Jacob, Andrew, Eric, Samantha, Heather, Richard, Rustin, Patti, Elizabeth, Ryan, Kyle and Spencer; 16 great-grandchildren and one on the way; sister, Nancy (LaVerne) DeYoung and brother, Russ (Pat) Reeder; in-laws: Bonnie Reeder, Mary Ann Gressler, Germaine and James Stellard, Kathleen O’Hearn, Barbara and Ken Ritter, Nancy Gressler, and Kenneth and Annie Gressler; many nieces and nephews. Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, June 26, 2019 at St. John Vianney Church, 4101 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming. Interment at Resurrection Cemetery. The family will receive relatives and friends Tuesday from 2-4 and 6-8 (Rosary at 7:30 p.m.) at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park, Wyoming and one hour prior to the mass at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to St. Ann’s Home, in memory of Doug and Pat Reeder.
