Douglas Meekhof

January 25, 1951 ~
February 16, 2021

On Tuesday, February 16, 2021, Douglas Bruce Meekhof, loving uncle and brother, went to be with his Lord and Savior at the age of 70. Doug was born on January 25, 1951, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, to Russell and Bernice Meekhof. He grew up in Jamestown and graduated from Unity Christian High School and became an electrician, following in his father’s footsteps. He started a business, Meekhof Electric, with his brother Larry. He retired in his 50’s and spent the rest of his life using his hobbies and time to create meaningful relationships with family and friends. Doug was an avid hunter and fisherman. He spent his falls hunting in Nebraska. In the winter he enjoyed fishing in Florida, where he broke some fishing records. Over the summer, he came back to Michigan where he enjoyed fishing tournaments with family and friends. Doug was always present at baseball games, birthday parties, and never missed his twice daily coffee hour with the guys. He would do anything to help a loved one in need, and he will be greatly missed. Doug was preceded in death by his father, Russell; and his mother, Bernice. He is survived by his sister, Shirlee; brother, Larry; brother-in-law, Herm; sister-in-law, Carol; nephews, Bryan (Krystal), Nate (Nina), and Peter (Kim); and several great-nephews and great-nieces. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2021, at 11 a.m. at Chapel Pointe, 3350 Baldwin St., Hudsonville, with Pastor Bob Bloom officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Saturday, February 27, at 10 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of donations, please take a loved one hunting or fishing in memory of Doug.

Fond high school memories of Doug. Always a smile on his face. My sympathies to his family.

I always loved Doug‘s calm smile and half grin that assured you he was ready to say something. When I told little Keegan, he always got a kick out of the raccoon Doug has in the cabin, and wondered if he would still be able to see it🥲. I know the entire family will be comforted by a lifetime of memories with a great family member and friend. Since we have the memorial request of taking someone hunting or fishing covered, we are going to have a tree planted instead knowing Doug’s love for woods and water. Al
