Dorothy Van Dyken

Dorothy Jeanne Van Dyken, age 84, of Jenison, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, December 9, 2017.  Dorothy was born in Chicago, IL and moved to Grand Rapids to attend Calvin College, where she met Eugene.  She earned her degree and was an elementary school teacher before she started her family. She loved her family and enjoyed cross-stitching and crocheting. She was preceded in death by her parents: Peter and Dena De Boer; sister, Evelyn Scholma. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 62 years, Dr. Eugene Van Dyken; children: Marc and Karen Van Dyken, Kristy Garlick, Philip and Michele Van Dyken, Amy and Troy Brouwer; grandchildren: Nicholas Van Dyken, Dannielle and Ryan Gill, Jake Garlick, Tyler and Kendrah Van Dyken, Benjamin Van Dyken, Maggie Mae Van Dyken, Alexis Brouwer, Skylar Brouwer, Sienna Brouwer;  great grandchildren: Henrik, Hudson, Michelle, Asher; sister, Ethel and Herman Steenstra; brother-in-laws: Clarence Van Dyken, Jay and Shirley Van Dyken; many nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 12, 2017 at Georgetown Christian Reformed Church, 6475 40th Ave., Hudsonville, with Rev. Marc Nelesen and Rev. Jack Dik officiating. Interment Georgetown Township Cemetery.  Relatives and friends may meet the family on Monday from  3-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4145 Chicago Dr. SW, Grandville and one hour prior to the service at church. The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff of Emmanuel Hospice and Brookcrest Nursing Home for their loving care of Dorothy.
