Dorothy Caroline Hovingh

Dorothy Hovingh, 98, of Grand Rapids, passed away peacefully to be with her Lord on Sunday, April 5, 2026. Dorothy was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother whose life was rooted in deep faith and devotion. She was a woman of strong religious conviction, finding comfort and purpose in her beliefs. After 55 years of marriage, she dearly missed her beloved husband, Chuck, whose memory remained close to her heart.
Family meant everything to Dorothy, and she treasured every moment spent together. She had a gift for making others feel cared for, always looking out for the needs of her loved ones and ensuring everyone was taken care of. In her spare time, she enjoyed quilting and sewing and was an active member of a quilting group, where she shared both her talents and her friendship.
Dorothy was warm, social, and wonderfully talkative, finding joy in the company of others and bringing light to those around her.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Chuck; son, Tim and Carol Hovingh; grandson, Ben Hovingh; sisters, Ivy and Kenneth Cranmer; Marjorie and Hugh Frederiksen; brother, Wayne Thurkettle.
She will be lovingly remembered by her sons,  Dennis and Mike Hovingh; grandchildren, Nicholas and Kendra Hovingh, Jillian and Brandon Willoughby, Andrew and Marissa Hovingh, Carlyn and Matt Hoeppner, David and Theresa Hovingh, Lindsay Hovingh, Blake and Jenna Hovingh, Justin and Carrie Foster, Anna and Marco Ramirez, and Jae Wheeler, Kristi Hovingh; great-grandchildren, Benjamin, Cathrin, James and Liv Hovingh, Hailey, Emmett, Julian, Emily, Elizabeth, Jonathon, Hadley, Hudson, and Theo; and many nieces and nephews. 
Funeral services will be held 11 am Friday, April 17, at Faith Lutheran Church, 2740 Fuller Avenue NE, Grand Rapids, with Pastor Adam Woods officiating. Burial will be held at Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Friday from 10-11 at the church, one hour prior to the service. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Faith Lutheran Church.
