Dorothy May (Coon) Carle, age 85, of Jenison, MI, went to be with the Lord on Thursday, October 1, 2020. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bruce Carle, who passed away in September of 2011 after 52 years of marriage. Dorothy was the daughter of the late E. Charles and Ethel M. (Tucker) Coon. She was also preceded in death by her siblings, Barbara (Addison) Finch, Blanche (Walt) Erickson, Donald (Marlene) Coon, Janet Eddleman, Charlotte (Bob) Olive, Paul Coon, Donna Whitesall, and David Coon; brothers-in-law, Doug Carle, Jim Cartter; and sister-in-law, Joyce Carle. Surviving are her children, Michael (Catherine) Carle, Margo (James) Jordan, and Ralph (Jill) Carle; grandchildren, Tiffany Valdez, Alexander Carle, Anthony Carle, and Isabella Carle; two great-granddaughters, Zoey and Penelope Valdez; siblings, Frank (Idella) Coon, Ralph Coon, Ethel Cartter, Virginia (Kelly) Pinten, Howard (Sharon) Coon, and Shirley (Jake) Skewes; brothers-in-law, Dean Eddleman and Terry Whitesall; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends. Dorothy and Bruce were married on August 8, 1959, at St. Joseph Church in Hancock, MI. Their faith was very important to them and they were founding members of the Holy Redeemer Catholic Church in Jenison. They enjoyed many trips to the Upper Peninsula and California and especially loved touring old churches, searching out waterfalls in the Midwest and Canada, walking through gardens, and playing cards and dominoes. Dorothy loved to bake, and her house was always filled with goodies. She had a great sense of humor and would always read the Sunday comics and was ready to recite a joke, even near the end. She was an avid letter writer and kept nearly every letter and card she received. Her figurine, teacup, and ornament collections were precious to her. Dorothy’s love and laughter will be greatly missed by her children and grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 8, 2020, at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Redeemer Catholic Church, 2700 Baldwin St., Jenison, with Fr. Colin Mulhall presiding. Relatives and friends may meet the family Wednesday, October 7, from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville), 4145 Chicago Drive SW. A prayer vigil will be held at 3:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Masks are required at the visitation and the service. The burial will take place at Georgetown Township Cemetery.
