Doris M. VanVelsen (Nickels), aged 86, left this earth surrounded by her family to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, August 17, 2015. She was preceded in death by her husband, Don VanVelsen; parents, Nicholas and Veronica Nickels; brother, Norman Nickels; and in-laws, Jack and Florence Stuk (VanVelsen). She will be lovingly missed by her four daughters, Dianne (Bryan) Coe, Deb (Tom) Hilbrands, Denise (John) Baker, Donna (Doug) Griffin; 19 grandchildren; 36 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild. She is also survived by two sisters, Evelyn Kopkenkoski, Muriel Kuhn; brother, Delmer (Nancy) Nickels; sisters-in-law, Louise Nickels, Jean Nickels; brothers-in-law, Dean (Vera) VanVelsen, David (Carol) VanVelsen; and many special nieces and nephews. Doris was a loving mother and grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her family and crocheting a baby blanket for each of her grandchildren. A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday at 11:00 am at St. John Vianney Church, 4101 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, with Fr. Michael Alber presiding. Interment Resurrection Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming, on Wednesday from 6-8 pm with a rosary at 8 pm. Also at the church on Thursday from 10-11 am prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. John Vianney Church or Faith Hospice-Trillium Woods.

Aunt Doris was (still is) the sweetest & most kind lady,her joy splashed onto everyone around her.Her laugh was contagious & her eyes radiated love.I always loved seeing her.You sure were Blessed with wonderful parents! Praying for your entire family's peace & comfort,rejoicing for her homecoming.
