Remembering Doris J. Gritter

Doris J. Gritter, 91, passed away peacefully and went home to be with her Lord on June 25, 2019. She was preceded in death by her husband, John; sons-in-law, Dave Snoeyink and Scott Lynema. She is survived by her children, Marge Snoeyink, Mae and Ron Scholten, Kae and Bob Kingma, John and Judy Gritter, Beane Lynema, Don and Nancy Gritter; 15 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; siblings and in-laws, Stu Cok, Ken and Carolyn Coke, Gloria Cok, Joy and Bruce Schuurmann, Joan Gritter, Perk Gritter, Muff Gritter, and Winabelle Gritter. A private graveside service will be held with her immediate family. Memorial contributions may be made to Sunset Legacy Foundation.

I believe Doris and John drove their station wagon for the SW Christian School paper drive in 1960. I was in Audrey's class and we were 9th graders doing the paper drive thing. I can hardly believe that they would do that with all those children at home but I think I am right. I am a second cousin so it impressed me. I also stole my first kiss in that back of that station wagon on that night so I remember it rather well. Memorable stuff, especially since I went on to become principal some of her grandchildren at Holland Christian. My sympathies to the families who are grieving her loss. I also believe she was named for the Sea Captain's daughter Dirkje Kuipers DeGraaf. Ken Kuipers
