Donna Toppen

Donna Jean (Boersema, DeWitt) Toppen, our warrior mother, was born 88 years ago to Ernest and Janet (Taylor) Boersema in Grand Rapids, MI. She passed peacefully and joined her Lord and her loved ones in heaven on April 25, 2022. Donna was a gifted pianist who used her talents in many ways, especially in her church while raising her children. She played piano for the residents of Vista Springs Wyoming, where she was a resident for nearly three years. Though her memory was nearly gone, she could still play the piano and her fellow residents loved to hear her play. Donna was preceded in death by her husband, Harvey Toppen; her first husband, Marvin DeWitt Sr.; sister, Barbara Zeeff; and her beloved granddaughter, Leah Royce. She is survived by her children, Wendy (Gary) Troost, Meri (Debbie Haskins) DeWitt, Marv (Monica) DeWitt, and Holly Medenblik; 16 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren; her stepchildren and step-grandchildren in Washington state; sister-in-law, Anna Bouterse; several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held at 3 pm on Friday, April 29, 2022, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW with Pastor John Nauta officiating. Burial Grandville Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family one hour prior to the service at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to the Alzheimer’s Association.
