Donna Detmer

DETMER, DONNA Houghton Lake Donna Mae Detmer, age 79, of Houghton Lake, went home to be with her Lord on Tuesday, October 25, 2016. She will be lovingly remembered by her husband of 59 years, Edward; children, Paul Detmer, Doug and Kim Detmer, Brenda Buck; grandchildren, Shaun Detmer, Alicia Bippus, Erica Detmer, Dione and John Rhoades, Joey and Amanda Detmer, Caitlin Detmer; many great grandchildren; brother, Donald Peer; nephews, Don Peer, Jr., and Daniel Peer. Donna loved her Lord, her family, her church, fishing and Avon. Funeral services will be held Friday 11:00 am, October 28, 201 6 at the Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Chapel (Caledonia), 616 East Main St., with Rev. Bryan Thompson officiating. Interment Roselawn Memorial Gardens, Saginaw, MI. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the funeral home. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to The Wesleyan Church of Houghton Lake or the Salvation Army.

Donna was a member of the same Church in Texas as my wife and I many years ago. She got us used to praying out loud, which we had never done before. She knew she could never measure up on her own merit or works to be forgiven of sin or enter heaven. But she also knew Jesus had done that for her and whoever trusts what He did on the cross and His resurrection from death. She is definitely smiling, laughing and dancing in God's throne room right now!

The passing of a parent is so hard on those left behind. After reading Caitlin's post about her grandma, I know you will all get through this as she was a woman of great faith. Our condolences to the family and those she loved.
