Donald Remtema, age 84, of Grandville, was called to his heavenly home on Friday, July 28, 2017. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herman and Gertrude Remtema and his brother, Roger Remtema. He will be sadly missed by his wife of 61 years, Edith (Kieviet) Remtema; children, Carol (John) Van Prooyen, Diane (Mark) Metzler; grandchildren, Ryan Kool, Meagan (Nick) Miskosky, Matt Metzler and Leah Metzler; great-grandchildren, Jacob and Grant Miskosky; brother, Gordon (Rena) Remtema; and sister-in-law, Hildred Remtema. Don began working at Remtema Electric at age 15 and continued as co-owner until his retirement at age 65. He proudly served his country in the U.S. Army during the Korean War, where he was stationed in Korea. Don and his wife enjoyed traveling for many years on their boat and in their motorhome. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, August 1, at 11 a.m. at Ivanrest Christian Reformed Church, 3777 Ivanrest SW, Grandville, with Rev. Tony Meyer officiating. Interment will be held at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday from 6-8 p.m. at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW and Tuesday from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Ivanrest CRC Christian Education Fund or to Faith Hospice.
