Donald Ondersma

ONDERSMA - Mr. Donald J. Ondersma aged 71 of Grand Rapids, passed away Thursday, July 28, 2011. He was preceded in death by his father, Arthur R. Ondersma; brother, Arthur J. Ondersma; and daughter-in-law, Laurie Ondersma. Surviving are his wife of 49 years, Joanne; children, Victoria (John) VanTil, Donald, Debbie and Scott Ondersma; mother, Vera Ondersma; grandchildren, Travis, Tonia and Joshua Steketee, Kaitlyn, Darcy and Taylor Ondersma; great granddaughter, Nautia Steketee; sisters, Shirley VanderBand, Mary Ondersma, Barbara Haggi, Anne (Walt) Beeney; brothers, Howard (Carol), Marvin, Ralph and Steve; step-mother, Ardith Ondersma; several nieces and nephews. Don was a member of the Elks Lodge 354 and Faith Lutheran Church. He proudly served his country with the US Navy. Don retired from Meijers after 32 years of service. A special thanks to Sheila O'Rourke and the nurses at Lemmen-Holton Cancer Pavilion and to Hospice nurse Amy "God bless her". A memorial service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, August 5, 2011 at Faith Lutheran Church, 2740 Fuller Ave. NE with Pastor Kevin Sullivan officiating. His family will greet relatives and friends Thursday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 at the Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Dr. NE., Belmont, and one hour prior to the service at church.
