Dennis “Denny” A. Smith

Smith, Dennis "Denny" A. Dennis (Denny) A. Smith, aged 58 of Grandville, passed away from CLL (Chronic Lymphocytic Leukemia) on Friday, September 27, 2013. He was a child of God, faithful husband, devoted father, and friend to many. He worked at Gerrit's Appliance for 38 years and loved being a 'lonely Maytag repairman'! His passion as a cadet leader for 10 years at Fairway CRC empowered many young boys. He is survived by his dear wife, Cherie and their children, Kim (fiancé, John Chaney), Rachel, and Brad; his sister, Carla and Kevin Schutte (Jill and Amber); father-in-law and mother-in-law, Dale & Dee Sall; sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, Cathy Sall (Caili), John and MaryJo Sall (Nate and Caitlin). Denny was preceded in death by his parents, Carl and Gert Smith. A special thanks to Dr. Alan Campbell; his nurse, Tammy; many caring PA's and the staff of 6 South at Spectrum Butterworth. Funeral services will be held on Monday 11 am at Fairway Christian Reformed Church, 1165 44th St., Jenison with Rev. David Den Haan and Ed Tamminga officiating. Interment Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Dr. SW. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Fairway Christian Reformed Church Cadet program or the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society.

The first time I met Denny was when he came to my house to fix my oven. He loved to talk. (don't remember what we talked about) Come to find out through Matt, that was his buddys dad. Denny was a very caring,fun person to be around. I remember bringing my dish to your condo in FL to bake cause I didn't think our oven was preheating. Come to find out, Denny told me that the type of oven in our condo usually takes a half hour to preheat. I'm so glad that I got to know Denny better this past 6 months. RIP Denny. Maria Peters

Cherie and family...It is with a sad heart that I write this note. I've only known Denny for 4 yrs., but I will always remember him as a genuine, caring "young" man!! We just got back from Holland State Park...that was the last place we saw Denny on the 4th of July. And we know that was a special place for you. Cherie, Kim, Rachel and Brad. We are so sad to hear of Denny's passing but are rejoicing that he is dancing and healthy in heaven. We enjoyed getting to know him thru the many times we saw him with you at company events. He was truly a wonderful man. He will be missed. Cheri, Our thoughts are with you. It has always been such a joy to have Denny talk us through all our repairs issues with our appliances. This last time, he just told us to hang it up and buy a new wash machine BUT I called him back and still needed his advise as to what brand. I should buy..
