Remembering Denise Scott

Denise Diane Scott, age 66, of Wyoming, Michigan, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family, on Thursday, June 4, 2026, after a long, brave, and courageous battle with breast cancer.

Denise was preceded in death by her parents, Beverly Jean DeYoung and Jerome Keith DeYoung; her parents-in-law, William and Beverly Scott; and her brothers-in-law, William Scott III and John Way.

She will be lovingly remembered by her devoted husband of 47 years, Bruce Scott; her children, Tara and Bill James, Daniel Scott and Julie Baker, and Jana and Brandon Vugteveen; and her cherished grandchildren, Jacob, Jaylen, Austin, Connor, Kiersten, Mackenzie, and Victoria. She is also survived by her siblings, Jamie and Dave Patchin, Jack DeYoung, Janet and Tom Renton, Dyan DeYoung, and Ken Max; her sister-in-law, Sandy Way; as well as many beloved nieces, nephews, extended family members, and dear friends.

Born on June 14, 1959, in Grand Rapids, Michigan, Denise lived a life marked by faith, kindness, strength, and unwavering love for her family. As the oldest of five children, she naturally stepped into a nurturing role, lovingly supporting her siblings while attending Grand Rapids Jr. Academy. Her brothers and sisters affectionately referred to her as their "second mom."

At the age of 18, Denise met the love of her life, Bruce, at Quality Lunch Cafe in downtown Grand Rapids. Together they built a beautiful life, sharing 47 years of marriage and raising three wonderful children.

Denise was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend whose generous spirit and compassionate heart touched countless lives. She dedicated 30 years of service in the medical field at Corewell Health, caring for others with the same kindness and grace she showed to everyone she met.

Her greatest joy was her family. She loved bringing people together and had a special gift for making every gathering and celebration meaningful. Whether through holidays, birthdays, family dinners, or simple moments spent together, Denise created memories that will be treasured forever. Affectionately known as "The Queen" by her family, she led with love, strength, wisdom, and a touch of humor.

Her faith in Jesus Christ guided every aspect of her life and provided her with peace, comfort, and hope during her final days. While her family mourns her loss, they rejoice in the assurance that she is now resting peacefully and will one day be reunited with her loved ones.

A celebration of life service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, June 13, 2026, at Fairway Church, 1165 44th Street, Jenison, Michigan. Family and friends may visit with the family on Saturday from 10:00-10:45 a.m. at the church prior to the service. A luncheon will immediately follow as family and friends gather to celebrate Denise's life and legacy.

Memorial contributions may be made to Jenison Christian School in honor of Denise's grandchildren.

I am so sorry to hear of Denise’s passing. I worked with her at Johnson’s Carpet for many years. She was a very nice and thoughtful friend. And boy could she arrange a party! I recall a joint baby shower she put together for two of our coworkers. It was so much fun, and the food was fabulous. My sincere condolences to Bruce and the family. Denise always spoke so highly of all of you.

Dyan, Ken and Family, What a beautiful sister you had in all of your lives! She did so much for so many during her short time here on earth. She was a wonderful person which was very clear from reading the lovely story of her life. So sorry to hear of your loss. I will be thinking and praying for you tomorrow as you celebrate her life. Dave and I send you our condolences. Janice Erickson

When I think of Denise this verse comes to mind: “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4:7) Denise was a warrior and she faced life’s challenges head on with courage and tremendous grace. I can only imagine the hug she got, wrapped up in the arms of Jesus, as He welcomed her home.
