Delores Finnie

March 22, 2026

Delores J. Finnie of Ada, Michigan, age 92, passed away peacefully at her home on Sunday, March 22, 2026.

Delores was a proud graduate of Godwin Heights High School. After graduation, she served as a secretary at Interstate Transportation Company.

Delores was a loving wife, mother, and grandmother.

In her earlier years, she enjoyed traveling with her family. Among her most memorable trips was a vacation to Hawaii with her sister, Mazie, and brother-in-law, Walt. She also enjoyed cooking, reading and shopping.

In her later years, she loved going up north and spending time at their cottage on Torch Lake. Most of all, she enjoyed spending time with her family and was a very devoted grandmother. Nothing in this world gave her more joy than to spend time with her family members, whether it was on vacation or just simply sitting around the kitchen table telling stories. Delores will be forever remembered for her sense of humor, quick wit, generosity and the ability to always put others before herself. There simply wasn’t anything she wouldn’t do for her family.

Delores is survived by her daughter, Jill (Tom) Anderson of Kentwood; daughter, Jane (Glen Dillon) Vandersloot of Grand Rapids; and son, Robert (Cheryl) Finnie II of Sebring, Florida; her grandchildren, Rebecca (Tom) Stewart, Kaylee (Collin) Wolff, Ross (Chris) Finnie, Marc Anderson, and Laura Vandersloot; niece, Sue (Dick) Richards; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 74 years, Robert; sisters, Maxine (Sidney) VanderWerf, Mazie (Walt) Angstman, Vivian (Robert) Fokkens, and Geraldine Manor; brothers, Melvin (Joan) Shippy, Bill (Irma) Shippy, and Earl Shippy.

Since Delores is now reunited with her husband, the family is planning a celebration of life event at a later date. Per her love of animals and her final wishes, any memorial contributions on her behalf should be made to the ASPCA.

Mom, I miss you more than words could ever convey. Every time I see your picture I break down in tears. I know that you are in a much better place and free finally from your pain, but nothing has ever hurt this much. Know that we are all looking out for each other. We are all looking out for Marc, as we have promised and we will take care of each other now and do our very best to make you proud. Thank you for so many of the best memories of my life. So many laughs, so many sweet and tender and nurturing moments. So many hugs and kisses and never ending support. You were my best friend and I’m trying to figure out how to live my life without you. Thank you for teaching me how to be a good mom, simply leading by example. I will forever be grateful for the close relationship we had, one in which I could tell you anything and everything. Thank you for all day shopping trips on snow days, endless vacation memories, and most of all, being the absolute best grandmother Laura could’ve ever hoped for. Please know that I am grateful and that it was an honor and a privilege to take care of you during your last months on earth. It was a blessing being able to spend so much time with you and get a chance to say the things I wanted and needed to say. Through all your pain and suffering, you still put all of us above yourself. You are missed, you are loved, and you will forever be cherished in our hearts. We will do our very best to carry on your legacy of generosity, kindness, and selflessness. Love you Always & Forever, Janie
