Gort, Deborah Kay Deborah Kay (Scholten) Gort, age 49, of Jenison, went home to be with her Lord on Saturday, May 17, 2014 after an 8 1/2 year courageous battle with brain cancer. She was preceded in death by her infant son, Tony and her mother-in-law, Barbara Gort. She will be lovingly remembered by her children, Kevin and Emillie Gort, Kaleigh Gort; the father of her children, Ron Gort; parents, Harm and LuAnne Scholten; sister and brother, Diane and Wayne Bruursema, Steven and Lisa Scholten; her niece, Sydnie; and many dear friends. Funeral services will be held on Tuesday 11:00 AM at Matthysse-Kuiper-DeGraaf Funeral Home (Grandville) 4145 Chicago Drive SW. Interment Georgetown Township Cemetery. Relatives and friends may meet the family Monday from 2-4 and 7-9 PM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society or the American SIDS Institute.

Please accept my sincere condolences for your loss. Death is the enemy of all mankind, yet when it touches us personally, it is at times difficult to receive the comfort we search for. In times like these I know I can find comfort in God's word. In John 5:28,29 He tells us " Do not be amazed at this, for the hour is coming in which all those in the memorial tombs will hear his voice and come out." As the God and Father of tender mercies, He wants you to find comfort in Him through prayer ( 2 Cor 1:3 ). Dan Lawrence

I meet Deb when we were both hired at Keebler.. We were elves together and if you can have fun at work we did.. even though i left keebler in 2000.. I lost touch with Deb, but i never forgot her,, Last night i was walking around the funeral home looking at her life in pictures. Her beautiful children,her mom and dad.. Deb so young.. Deb taught me how to put on my make up, and what to due with my crazy curly hair.. I can see Deb so clearly hand on her hip and ready to let someone know what was what!!! Even though all these years have passed i will always remember my friend... God Bless all her family.. Pamela Davies-stark
