David Zaagman

David Zaagman, age 60, of Jenison was called to his heavenly home on Tuesday, April 7, 2026. Dave was a devoted father who never missed a game or band concert. He even became a father figure to all of his kid’s friends and their teammates. He was always there to offer a helping hand to whoever needed one. Dave loved fishing and was extremely proud of his dream job working for Cabela’s in their fishing department. His true pride and joy though, was his grandchildren who he cherished deeply and loved spending time with. He was preceded in death by his mother, Janet Zaagman. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 35 years, Barbara; children, Melissa (Rob) Hunt, Jeff Zaagman; grandchildren Anthony, Brady, Caydence, Davyna; father, Robert Zaagman; sisters, Dot (Jerry) Opatic, Laurie (Dan) Postma; and several aunts, uncles, nieces, and nephews. According to Dave’s wishes no funeral services will be held. Those who wish may make memorial contributions to Wings of Mercy.

Dave was the best drummer, I had ever heard. He thought my how to play a drum set, he taught me how to ice fish, he was one of the best of us at Lee high school in shear morals and ethics, he loved being a Zaagman (his sisters brother, his parents son and being related to the other Zaagmans in the Wyoming area. I met Dave (when be played on the Pinery park all-star team together in 1978, ever since then I had a great friend. I did not see David after he graduated, from Lee high school and I left for the Marine Corps, and unfortunately have not seen him in 40 years the impact he had on me are still with me. Heaven has a great man and today I miss him (selfishly for myself) and for his family but I know he is where he lived his entire life to be. Until I see you again my friend, have the waxed worms ready and the 33 lps ready to pound out some 70’s-80’s hits. (Mike Losey)

I remember walking in the fishing section where you worked and you patiently answered all my questions, and even offered me suggestions on how to improve. I really appreciated that. A couple weeks later, I saw you at the river, in your boat getting ready to go fishing with your dad. Only to find out a few days later that you are Jeff's dad! Thank you for allowing me to assist. Im sorry we never had an opportunity to go fishing in your boat. I'll miss your text messages. I hope the fishing in heaven is always the best day! Rest In Peace.
