David Vanden Berg, age 83, of Hudsonville passed away surrounded by family on Wednesday, September 11, 2024. Dave was born on August 14, 1941 to Herman and Nellie Vanden Berg. He is survived by his wife of 32 years, Linda Vanden Berg; children, David Vanden Berg, Daniel Vanden Berg; stepchildren, Jennifer and Jon Hamming, Jeremy and Jill Crosby; nine grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren; two great-great-granddaughters; sister, Doris McDonald; brother-in-law, Ted and Michele Cutler; and many nieces and nephews. Dave was preceded in death by his first wife, Dolores; daughter, Cynthia Marie; parents, Herman and Nellie Vanden Berg; brother, Herman Vanden Berg; and sister, Helene Crawford. Growing up, Dave lived in the Wyoming area and attended both Holy Name of Jesus Catholic School and Catholic Central High School. After graduating, he married his high school sweetheart, Dolores, and enlisted in the Navy. He always felt he was privileged to serve on the USS Constellation, the first year this ship was commissioned. After his service in the Navy, he returned home and secured an apprenticeship through General Motors for tool and die, eventually working into cad cam programming. After the death of his wife, he focused his efforts on raising his sons before remarrying. Retiring after thirty years, he became a snowbird with his wife, Linda, in the Bradenton, FL area. He always loved being on the water. With a group of friends, they bought an old marina in the Grand Haven area, renaming it River's Edge. Dave spent many years fishing and exploring the many harbors along the Lake Michigan shoreline. Dave also spent the summers building beautiful oak furniture for his children and grandchildren. His winters were spent at Terra Ceia Manor Mobile Home Park and boating on the inland waterway around Tampa Bay. Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 11 am on Thursday, September 19, 2024, at St. Pius X Catholic Church, 3937 Wilson Ave SW, Grandville, with Fr. Stephen Durkee presiding.
