David Stanley Olin, Sr.

David Stanley Olin, Sr. passed away July 23rd, 2021, at home, after a short and courageous battle with cancer surrounded by his loving family. He was a man of strong faith and upon hearing the news of his illness he continued with grace and dignity as he looked forward to Heaven. David was a proud military man who served his country for 13 years in the Air Force as a firefighter and a member of the helicopter rescue crew, until an injury forced him to retire. Additionally, he loved to garden (even when he fought the squirrels for the tomatoes). Above all else, he was a family man who adored being together with his children and grandchildren. He looked forward to gatherings that included family poker games which were epic and have supplied his family with many laughs and memories to cherish. He could fix anything and would often invent new uses for things that we thought we did not need anymore. Oh, the creativity and laughs we had when he would share these new creations. Always practical, but maybe not necessary! David loved the outdoors. He would walk and spend days walking through trails first thing in the morning and once again in the evening. He loved long car trips to the UP with his son and the many car shows they attended together. David is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Linda; daughter, Vicki Gravelyn; son, David II and Deb Olin; and his twin grandchildren, Seth and Mackenzie Gravelyn, along with grandson, David Olin III, and his furry buddy, Tex; sister, Lois Baragar; along with numerous nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Herschel and Kathryn Olin; brothers, Al and Pat; sisters, Vonnie, Jean and Dee, and his favorite son-in-law, Martin Gravelyn Sr. We want to thank Faith Hospice, especially Dr. Dozeman and our champion, Mandy, for the wonderful and compassionate care they gave our wonderful dad and beloved Papa. Per his request, cremation has taken place with no services at this time. In lieu of flowers, the family has requested donations to Faith Hospice in David’s memory.
