David Russell Stephenson

David Russell Stephenson, age 63, passed away on Saturday, December 15, 2018 at Spectrum Health Butterworth Hospital, after a courageous battle with COPD. David was born March 15, 1955. Two brothers preceded him in death, Michael Stephenson and Ronald Stephenson. David leaves behind his daughter, Danielle, and two grandchildren; brothers, Robert L. Stephenson, Gary Groeneveld; sisters-in-law, Paula Stephenson, Estefania Stephenson; nephew, Robert Stephenson III; nieces, Cicilia and Amelia and their families; many more nieces and nephews; good friends, Rich and Jackie Lee. We thank you, Jackie Lee, for being a dedicated, wonderful nurse to David for many years.  David’s life work was in retail and real estate. He loved fishing and spending time with friends at his lake cabin. When he was a young man, he had a tame female cougar, which he kept for many years. He married Debbie, and gave his cougar to a zoo. Because he loved cats, they found an adorable grey and black long haired female cat. David will be deeply missed by his family, who are grateful to his medical team and caregivers for all they have done for him over the years. In a tribute to David, we suggest drinking a toast to family and friends, and giving a loving hug to our beloved pets. Relatives and friends may meet the family on Thursday, December 20, 2018 from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8 p.m. at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4031 Clyde Park SW, Wyoming. No formal services will be held. Interment Oak Grove Cemetery in Napoleon, MI. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Humane Society of West Michigan or your favorite charity.
