Family owned and operated for over 85 years.
David was born on July 21, 1938, in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Walter and Mary (Idziak) Kaliniak. He passed peacefully on Sunday, October 30, 2022. He fought a courageous fight with Dementia, and it is his time to rest. David left Grand Rapids to serve active duty in the United States Marine Corps at Camp Pendleton, California from 1954 – 1956. He returned to Grand Rapids and served in the USMC Reserves from 1956 – 1962. David drove truck for multiple companies and retired after 28 years of service from Interstate Motor Freight. David was not one to sit still so after retirement he went to work for Blythefield Country Club as a groundskeeper for almost 30 years, only officially retiring last year at the age of 83! He took pride in his work at Blythefield, and he worked every year of the LPGA Tournament until retirement. David loved spending time outdoors. His favorite spot was in his boat fishing with his sons, brothers, or his friends. He fished all year round and cleaned and fileted fish better than anyone around! He enjoyed his annual summer visits to Happy Hour Resort on Burt Lake. He had a love for gardening and mowing his lawn! Above all, he lived for spending time with his family. He was an amazing father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother, and uncle. He was truly a selfless man who would give you the shirt off his back. He was generous with his time and resources and would never stand to miss a chance with his family. He was preceded in death by his parents Walter and Mary; brothers Walter Jr, and Florian Kaliniak; sisters Lorraine Edkins, Betty Adams, and Esther McCarthy along with his wife Katherine Kaliniak. David is survived by his sons David Kaliniak Jr, Tom (Cheryl) Kaliniak and Dan Kaliniak; Grandchildren Jennifer (Jordan) Yeo and Kayleigh (Reese) Rehkopf; Great-grandchildren Audrey, Emma, and Harper Yeo and Caden Kaliniak. Brothers Donald (Keane) Kaliniak and Roger (Sandi) Kaliniak, along with numerous nieces, nephews, and friends. In the words of David “Take it easy” and it is “better than perfect.” We love you dad/grandpa.Funeral services will be held Friday 11 am at MKD Stegenga Funeral Chapel, 1601 Post Drive NE, Belmont, with Fr.
