David Arthur Diephouse

David Arthur Diephouse, 84, passed away peacefully early Saturday, March 21, 2026 with his wife of 62 years, Judith, by his side.
David was born in Grand Rapids, Michigan on October 16th, 1941 to Peter and Joan Diephouse. After graduating high school, David attended Calvin College where he met Judith (Schripsema) in the fall of 1960 while volunteering to serve meals to fellow students in the basement kitchen at Calvin CRC. Dave was drafted in the U.S. Army in late summer of 1961 and served 2 years at Fort Jackson. After returning home on August 1st, 1963, Dave and Judy were married on August 10th, 1963. Dave and Judy went on to have 3 children; Joan, David, and Elizabeth (Betsy), and later became loving grandparents.
David enjoyed singing in church choirs and sang with the Shubert Male Chorus for 25 years. He was an avid wood worker and worked tirelessly to help Judith build her career as a decorative artist. After retirement, and a long career with W.P. Williams, David also volunteered with his local elections board as a poll worker, and both Dave and Judy volunteered and are committed to the outreach of the Family Assistance Program through Calvin Church.
David is survived by and will live on through his wife Judith; children, Joan (Geoff) Lawton, David Diephouse (Marie Quillan), Elizabeth (Betsy) Shoemaker; grandchildren, Alexis Lawton, Andrew Lawton, Katelyn Lawton, Zackary Shoemaker, Katrina Shoemaker; brother-in-law, Jerry (Beverly) Schripsema; sister-in-law, Janet (Larry) Lindsey.
David was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Joan Diephouse; sisters, Dale Adams and Audry Prince; brothers-in-law, Glen Prince and John Schripsema.
Visitation will begin at 12:30 pm on Monday, April 6th with a Celebration of Life immediately following at 3pm, at Matthysse, Kuiper, DeGraaf Funeral Home, 1601 Post Drive, Belmont, MI. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Family Assistance Program, 700 Ethel Avenue, Grand Rapids, MI 49506.
