Dale Anderson

December 10, 1946 ~
March 30, 2024

Dale William Anderson, of Jenison, went to be at peace on Saturday, March 30, 2024. He was 77. Dale was a proud Marine and Vietnam War veteran. After his service, Dale worked as a commercial insurance auditor, IT professional, and then at Lowe’s in tools and hardware during retirement. The latter was particularly useful in supporting his woodworking habit, which grew to occupy all corners of the house and barn.

Dale enjoyed breakfast with local buddies, lunch with former classmates and neighbors, and military reunions. He loved being outdoors, visiting the lake cottage, and his dear boxer dogs. Dale was an avid reader and grammar sergeant with a penchant for storytelling. He is perhaps best known for his sense of humor, a regular prankster and purveyor of dad jokes.

Above all, Dale adored his family. Ever present and attentive, he never missed family outings, school functions, or special events. He will be lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Nancy Anderson; children, Kurt (Johanna) Anderson and Karen (Doug) Beverage; grandchildren, Janne and Heidi Anderson and Doug Beverage III; siblings, Eric (Lori) Anderson, Lori (Scott) Bennett, and Nancy (Bob) Gladding; sister-in-law, Attalie (Frank) Gourdard; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his parents, Russ and Shirley Anderson; brother, Mark Anderson; and granddaughter, Alice Beverage.

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, May 25, at Matthysse Kuiper DeGraaf Funeral Home, 4145 Chicago Drive SW, Grandville. Friends and relatives may visit with the family at the funeral home from 10-11 a.m., with lunch served afterward. In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions be directed to Operation Firewatch, Inc. Attn: Sgt. Kenneth Fischer, USMC, 13222 Bucktree Drive, San Antonio, TX 78254. This non-profit organization serves to bring combat veteran to combat veteran mentoring, a successor of a cause Dale supported wholeheartedly and established by a lifelong friend with whom he served in Vietnam.

I went to school with Dale from Lincoln School, Steele School and finally Mona Shores. Dale lived down the street from Marcia and I. I also enjoyed the luncheons we shared with our little MS group. Dale was always so funny to be around and I was happy to meet Nancy. My thoughts and prayers go out all of Dale's family. He will be greatly missed.

Dale was many things: husband, father, grandfather, friend. To me he was a brother Marine. We endured many things together, and established a bond that could never be duplicated. He will truly missed by all who knew him. Our love to Nancy and family. Jim & Barb Kiehnle
